Swimming Pool Incident!
After i was kinda a good swimmer i started going to MIT, swimming pool which is just 20 mins by cycle from my place. A huge group of my friends used to turn up there every day and we had a real lot of fun! The time duration was 1hr a day and we had passes or tickets through which we were allowed in. During weekdays we used to go in the noon and weekends it was early morning swim! It used to be real fun.
"People who did not know how to swim were always asked to be on the lower side of the pool"
This was during the May holidays which we had. It was a pleasant morning and as usual we were around 14 guys all set to enjoy in the pool for an hour! Nobody knew what was coming!
On this particular day we had a new friend who was joining us named Deepak Mallya! He did not know how to swim but he had just come down to have some fun.
Our usual routine in the pool during the hour was take some 4-5 laps.. Play some games, specially the coin game, wherein the coin is thrown into the water and one must search it without wearing the goggles. Then again at the end 4-5 laps.
We had our first set of 4-5 laps. The pool was totally empty except for me and my friends and a doctor uncle who always used to come in the morning. We even played our game after which we decided we'll have the last set of laps and wind up!
We were on our 2nd lap n i saw a cement like thing right below inside the pool. Since i was not wearing a goggled i could not make out what it was exactly. I stopped my friends and informed them about the same. We went in under the water and reached the bottom of the pool to find out that Deepak Mallya was lying underneath with his hands on his nose. He was unconscious. And it was totally difficult for me and my friend to pull him up because he was totally heavy. We then quickly went up and asked the lifeguard for help who in turn went in and pulled him up! We all were out of the pool surrounding him just hoping that things were fine with him. The doctor came to the spot and did the initial First Aid stuff and then he was taken to the hospital.
A day later he was discharged and when we asked him about the incident he never knew what had happened.
It was by God's grace that I noticed him and alerted my friends and the lifeguard.
I still feel real proud remembering this incident wherein i was responsible for saving a person's life :)
I would just like to say never ever play with water, if you don't know how to swim do not take the risk and jump into the water. There are so many deaths occurring these days due to water. If preliminary precautions are taken by us we surely can do a lot.
Cheers,
Muki

Goa- Shri Mahalasa Narayani
Goa, as we all know is the land of divine grace! Every other road has a temple! For all Amchi's (Konkani people) their respective kuladevata temple is situated in goa. So is mine!
Shri Mahalasa Narayani being my kuladevata, the temple is situated in Mardol,Goa.
Every year during navrathri in the temple a 5 day function is held wherein all the devotees will surely make it a point to be there and collect the prasad! This prasad which is know as "Kaul Prasad" is given only in Goa and only during the navrathri time!
Me, dad, uncle and my aunt decided to leave to goa via train on 5th morning, Monday. The train was scheduled at 2.20 and luckily it did arrive at the scheduled time. We had already booked the tickets so there was no problem in getting a seat. It was Mangalore-Mumbai Matshyagandha Express. Believe me at every stop from udupi to goa he had stopped and when we reached goa it was 8 p.m. The train travel was really wonderful! Passing through the mountains, rivers, the longest tunnel of Konkan railway near Harwada was really fun!
We couldn't get the bus from the railway station so had to hire a taxi! Petrol being cheaper in goa than in karnataka, the taxi fare for just a mere 20kms was 500 bucks!! WTF.. We had no ther choice but to take it! Since the pooja was at around 9.
I must say I have never seen more lazy people than the people in goa! Morning a.m they open their shop! Evening by 6 p.m the shops are closed!! :) Even then they lead a luxurious life!
We got prasad at 3 a.m in the morning! Standing in the queue was such a great task! Met a cute lil kid named Adithya! One n half year old! Very smart and cute!! Sorry, forgot to click his pic!!
Next day, we had our train scheduled at 3 p.m, Verna-Mangalore Passenger!
On the way I saw the Karwar Landslide which had killed so many people and nearly 25 houses burried due to mother nature's fury! It was seriously touching to see the things there as the train passes by the spot! Cylinders, Television sets, utensils and what not. Everything being removed from underneath the soil! The rescue operation was in progress! I have been told there are still more bodies underneath and the search operation is on! Feels real bad for their family! They have lost everything! Beloved family, house, everything!
In honnavar there came this small boy nearly 7 years old! He had a huge lays packet in his hand! He smiled at me as he sat right opposite to me! He started eating the chips! Mind you, his hand, until his elbow was inside the packet! Until udupi he nearly ate 7-8 packets of those huge lays! I was seriously dumbstruck seeing the way he was gulping the chips! That too not small packets.. I guess it was the 20 bucks one! :)
We finally reached Udupi at 8.30 p.m :)
A tight scheduled goa tour had come to an end safely with the grace of goddess Mahalasa Narayani!
Cheers,
Muki
